Matthew 16: 24-25 "'Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.'"
If I had to summarize what God taught me on the water last summer, it would be this. Deny myself. Pick up my cross. Die to myself. Daily. The Son of Man came to this world to be glorified and our lives need to reflect that. MORE of him and less of me. We need to worship our fully human and fully God Savior for who he is, not for what he can do for us. To lose our life is to humbly set aside our wants and desires knowing that God's plan is the absolute best for us. On the water this can come in many different forms. Less talk about ourselves, more talk about God. Less trying to do things our own way, more stepping aside and allowing God to direct our every move.
Another verse that stuck out to me was Mark 10:45 "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and give his life as a ransom to many."
This reminds me of when Jesus washes his disciples feet. Jesus, THE Son of Man, knows exactly who he is. He knows the full extent of his might power and that he, of all people, deserves to be praised and served. BUT, the God who is worthy, chooses to willingly love and serve US - and we are certainly not worthy!! He gets on his hands and knees, and washes the feet of his disciples, an act reserved for the lowest of servants. He does this as an example for us all: we serve because The Son of Man has served us!
